I own a large painting of 3 lion faces and my 2 year old son has named them Daddy, Mummy and ME. He looks at that painting every single day and he rambles on pointing at these lions. However the only words we can distinguish are “Daddy, Mummy and ME.”
Stories are how we communicate as humans. How we connect. This is what my 2 year old is trying to do with me everyday. Trying to tell me the story of the lions that is in his head. And you know what, that painting that we bought for like $50 is now priceless to us because of the story that it now represents.
This is what people are looking for in a business. In a product. The market is saturated with similar products but I can guarantee you the story behind them are all very different! Let’s say you want to buy fake flowers. There are 3 options. They all look fairly similar. One is $1, another $2 and the last one is $5. Which one would you pick? Most would pick the cheapest. Now what if you knew the story behind them. The fake flower for a $1 is mass produced by a large corporation. The $2 fake flower is bought in bulk and sold by a small business. Lastly the $5 fake flower is handmade by a local mum trying to support her family while her husband is battling cancer. Which one would you buy now?
Stories matter! Social media is a great place to tell your customers your story. The more they are connected to you through stories they are more likely to buy your services than that of your competition!
